Joyce Taylor was an inspirational businesswoman and community leader who was devoted to living out her humanitarian values. She studied journalism and went on to become the Senior Vice President of External Affairs for AT&T’s Northern California region. She used her position to head up community building projects, and was deeply involved in many local and national organizations including United Way of the Bay Area, Women’s Forum West, and the Executive Campaign Advisory Board of the United Negro College Fund. Taylor’s final year at AT&T was spent working as a loaned executive to the Remember Them project. Less known was her staunch commitment to terminating child prostitution.

About the Monument

The Remember Them Monument is installed in Henry J. Kaiser Park, near 19 th Ave and Telegraph Ave in
Oakland, CA. The bronze monument was cast at Mussi Artworks Foundry in Berkeley, CA. Mario Chiodo
donated his design and sculpturing hours. The Oakland Chamber of Commerce Foundation was the
fiscal sponsor.
